Job: Senior Teacher YL- Cairo, Egypt in Cairo, Egypt

Qualifications
(Minimum / essential)

  • Undergraduate Degree
  • DELTA or equivalent TEFL Q qualification
     

Desirable

  • Master’s degree in relevant area
  • Specialist qualification demonstrating specialisation, e.g. YL extension, TYLEC or equivalent /PGCE primary or secondary.

 
Language Requirement

  • English at Proficiency Level C2: Native speaker or IELTS band 8/9 in each of 4 sections of the academic module.
     

Role Specific Knowledge & Experience
(Minimum / essential)

  • Graduate plus higher-level teaching diploma DELTA/ Trinity Diploma in TESOL (or equivalent) or relevant NQF level 7 in appropriate area)
  • 2 years teaching experience (adults & YLs), post certificate level teaching qualification
  • Experience of line managing/ coordinating teaching teams

 

Desirable

  • Experience of teaching and/or examining IELTS candidates
  • Experience of delivering teacher training, undertaking teacher observations and developmental line management of teachers and support staff

 

Local restrictions on employment

This opportunity is open to Egyptian, and UK nationals.  Work permits can only be obtained via the British Council for UK and Egyptian passport holders. There are age restrictions to candidates who are over or close to 60 years of age when applying.

 

Housing allowance (Only for British Passport holder)

Assistance towards the cost of rented accommodation is paid depending on circumstances, as follows:

 

•    Unaccompanied                                                 8000 EGP
•    Accompanied (1 dependent)                              9000 EGP
•    Accompanied (2 or more dependents)               10,000 EGP
•    These allowances will be accountable. 

 

Sterling Supplement (Only for British Passport holder)

An additional payment of £420 is paid monthly into a UK bank account.

 

Fares & Travel (Only for British Passport holder)

Airfares on transfer Economy class for member of staff, accompanying partner and children from previous post or from the UK. Return airfares to the UK on completion of the contract where the member of staff is not going to another British Council post.  The British Council pays for visas, work permits, medical examination and vaccinations required for employment.

 

Baggage allowance

Baggage allowance of up to £1,200 for single employees or up to £2,000 for employees accompanied by family members at the beginning and on successful completion of your employment with the Council in Egypt. This allowance is accountable.

 

Additional Information: 

  • Annual Leave Allowance: 35 days per annum paid leave plus public holidays (currently 14 days)
  • Medical Allowance: You and accompanying members of your family will be registered with the British Council’s Group Medical Insurance. The scheme is administered by Allianz. The scheme covers medical and hospital treatment, repatriation costs, personal liability and other items.
  • Any Other Allowances: British Council pays for visas, work permits, vaccinations required for employment.
